Stages Doula and Photography is growing! We are looking for educated, reliable, fun, and enthusiastic people to join our team. We service the Tri-Cites and immediate surroundings, parts of the Fraser Valley, Langley, Mission, and Abbotsford, as well as Burnaby and the Vancouver area.


At Stages Doula we not only believe in education, knowledge, and support as key cornerstones to birth, but we also believe in personal power, family values as a whole, respect, and responsibility. We bring an element of fun and play into every family and birth. Laughter, fun, and a good joke is great medicine and an important tool in helping everyone relax. We also strongly believe in inclusivity: family is made up in many different ways, and we support these families without judgement and bias. 


I am looking for 

  • a birth doula,

  • a birth doula/photographer combination, 

  • and 2 postpartum doulas.

Requirements and Role of a Birth Doula 

Doulas are trained childbirth professionals who support families during their birthing time. Doulas offer unbiased family support, advocating for the client, facilitating conversations between care providers, and providing continuous support. Your role includes education, support in research, support in building a birth plan or values list, facilitating questions, and providing hands-on birth support. 

Requirements

  • Inclusive in support and language

  • A great sense of humour 

  • Reliable and responsible

  • Patient

  • Available to meet with clients 2-3 times (birth and postpartum)

  • Available to attend 1-4 births per month

  • Flexible and reliable transportation

  • Act as a backup doula when needed

  • Have attended 1-3 births


Requirements and Role of a Doula/Photographer Combo

Doulas and birth photographers both support the family during their birthing, as well as aim to capture moments through the process. Your role includes prenatal meeting, birth support, birth photography, and postpartum support.

Requirements

  • Primary focus is that of a doula (see requirements above)

  • Ability to multitask as a doula and photographer

  • Experience in photographing and editing images

  • Available to provide backup when needed

  • Provide 2 portfolios for review

  • Provide a minimum of 50-100 birthstory images


Requirements and Role of a Postpartum Doula 

Postpartum doulas provide care to families after the birth, in the home. Your role includes light household duties and tasks, such as meal planning and prep, laundry, and tidying, as well as newborn care. It’s important to know community resources, be able to provide information on supports available within the community, teach infant care, and provide knowledge about safe sleeping practices of newborn babies in a physiological and biological way. 

Postpartum generally begins after the birth of the baby in the family home. Sometimes families need support during their pregnancy--we offer this kind of support as well. 

Requirements

  • Infant & child first aid (can acquire after hire)

  • Variable hours depending on the contract, with a minimum of 4 hours and a max of 9 hours during the day, and a minimum of 6 hours during the evening and overnight

  • Current criminal record check

  • Breastfeeding knowledge (a continuing education breastfeeding course min of 18 hours in preferred, but not expected) 

  • Understanding of the adjustment postpartum period and infant development

  • Experience as a postpartum doula, or in child infant care, is ideal

Rate of Pay

Variable--details will be discussed with the selected applicants during the interview.
