Help support fundraising efforts for “cuddle cots” to benefit families grieving infant loss

Dear community members, practitioners, retail members, and care providers,

My name is Candice Tizzard. As I am a local doula and birth photographer, I have been supporting Lower Mainland women since 2011. In that time, some of my most meaningful work has involved supporting families who have suffered the unbearable tragedy of infant loss.

My compassion for these families is due, in part, to my own experiences. Eight years ago my niece suffered trauma during the birthing process and was born blue. Therefore, as a doula and as an aunt, I have seen firsthand the heartbreak and devastation losing a baby brings to the entire family. This brings me to why I am reaching out today.

I want to put the power to make educated choices back into the hands of women and their families, as well as help support them in the grieving process. I have taken leadership of In Our Hearts to propel this project into reality. In Our Hearts is a local community of families and facilitators. We meet monthly in various locations to create community and connection through miscarriage, pregnancy loss, stillbirth, and neonatal death.

We have two goals in mind.

1.    Our first goal is to fundraise for Cuddle Cots. These refrigerated cots allow a family to stay with their baby as long as possible after the baby has passed. More time together means more time to bond with their baby, which is thought to improve psychological outcomes for families and help the grieving process.[1] We aim to purchase 10 Cuddle Cots. Each Cuddle Cot costs approximately $3,000, plus the cost of training doulas in how to properly use, care for, and clean them.

2.    Our second goal is to fund and train doulas to volunteer within their communities, supporting families who have suffered infant loss, at no cost to the families. We would like to pay the doulas approximately $300 to 500 each for their time, and we would need around $1000 each to cover their training.

I am asking you to offer your support by referring me, Candice of Stages Doula and Birth Photography, throughout 2018.

·         When families sign up with me as a birth photographer, as a doula, or as a combination of both, I will donate $100 to my cause in your name.

·         The person who you have referred upon signing gets a 10% discount as a thank you for hiring me. I will offer the family the choice of taking the discount or donating it back to the fundraiser in their name.

Alternatively, donations can be made to the foundation.

·         Money transfers: can be sent to inourheartsloss@gmail.com

·         PayPal: paypal.me/InOurHearts

If you wish to donate with your talents, services, or skills instead, please let me know by contacting inourheartsloss@gmail.com. I welcome you to join my mailing list for newsletters and updates as to what is in the plan next and how much I have raised to date.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this letter and for considering joining us in supporting families of infant loss.

Yours truly,

Candice Tizzard
