This is ME 360 degrees

I am writing a 365 photo journal. I have chosen to do this for a few really good reasons. I was inspired to try during a resent Birth Photographer retreat I joined. My reasons are.

1. Growth, I am forcing myself to think out of the box to watch light, and movement. I am not using flash as I am pushing my growth in natural light and documentary style photography.

2. My children grow up way to fast, and it feels at times that I am missing the whole thing.

3. I want you all to get to know who I am, just as much as I get to know who you are. In my job I am with you for many hours sometimes days. The settings are very vulnerable and intimate. I get to know you on a very deep level quickly. I think by showing vulnerability and honesty, you have a chance to get to know me as well, just as quickly and just as intimately. Want a head start on me, read my blog 25 Things you Need to Know about Me

4. I want to write about things, people, and places that inspire me. What makes me tick, why it makes me tick. For me it has always been a feeling, so my challenge is to show my feeling through my lens. When I get inspired, or feel that passionate burn, I get excited and move. I would like to be able to photograph those feelings and photograph them well. Its so far been a tricky learning journey.

5. I hate being in front of my camera, and I hate selfies. I hate having my picture taken. I have a double chin, crooked smile and really bushy eyebrows. This is what I see when I look at me, but when I look at other people I see beauty. I want to get there in myself, fear holds me back, self judgment holds me back and lack of confidence holds me back as well. My goal is to leap past this self hurdle and see myself the way I see others and expect others to see in themselves too. I figure if each one of you shows me who you are, full of love, fear, beauty, pain and vulnerability, I can show you who I am in the same light. I also will be learning how to take a self portrait.

6. I photograph maternity, newborn and birth. My goal is to tell a story that Is not based on my work, but to pick up my camera and tell a story that is based on my life and my family.

17/365 Hugs are always free. M hurt his lip and A was right there to help him feel better with soothing words and a strong hug. I love my boy, he is always there for his friends!

11/365 This is the first pumpkin that I grew, I will turn it into puree, and then into homemade pumpkin soup. Pumpkin soup is another fall favorite. But first a PSA, pumpkin plants slowly grow and take over garden with what I am sure is a mission to take over the world!

9/365 I was out walking, when light and movement caught my eye. A gentle breeze was slowly blowing, causing these reeds to sparkle in my eye.

8/365 What a stunning sight to wake up to this morning, the sun coming up over the horizon, and the fog rolling out. I could drink my coffee and bask in this for hours.

6/365 Fall is my favorite time of year. I think the best part of fall is the scenic view of a tree lined street, and leaves on the ground

3/365 When I started as a Doula, I also focused on Postpartum work. My first gig as a postpartum Doula was with this little dude here. I was there when he was born and I am about to see his 3rd birthday. He is my best buddy, and he has come to know me as an Aunt of some sorts. Perspective: When we look at the world, we see it from straight on, but what happens if we change our view, look at the same thing, but a little differently? We see the same thing but from a different perspective. In life, it's a good tool to have, it helps us see what we can't, and it helps us look through the lenses of others.

13/365 This is my middle boy. He is quite and very money smart. When he was 4 he decided he wanted the Millennium Falcon for Christmas. We couldn't afford the cost, so he saved up all his birthday money to buy it for himself, he was 7. Then again at 7, he chose the way more expensive Death Star (the big one) by now he caught onto the save part, so any money he got, tooth fairy, a chore he begged to be payed for, Christmas and birthdays. At the age of 9 he saved up $650 and bought it. I am proud of this young man to delay his gratification, be patient and count his pennies for the big thing in life. I practically cry when he buys these things because I am so proud of him.

7/365 Reflections. What do you see Max? “I see a squirrel digging a nut and a real excavator!” Seeing the world through a child’s eyes and with his imagination can open up a whole new realm of possibility.

4/365 This morning my boys are playing and pretending to build houses out of blocks, blankets, the couch and the air hockey table. My daughter and I are just sitting there as I enjoy my coffee. I looked over and there is my baby curled up into herself quite, just watching. The light hit her beautifully and I found myself staring at her, she is stunning. The way the light brightens up her eyes and her freckles dance across her face fills me full of Love for her. I was motivated in that moment, to just capture her, her beauty, her freckles, and the mystery behind those eyes. It was just a quite moment, an uninteresting moment perhaps, but something about her and the light motivated me. What are you thinking dear one?

1/365 Since birth I have always had a cat, maybe 2 cat's, in 40 years I have not once been cat free. My life is unknown without feline family and would much be incomplete. This is Chevy, he is 12 and lives with epilepsy, enjoys escaping and causing us panic and days of hunting due to the fact his seizures have caused brain damage. He also enjoys long cuddles, shedding, and keeping you up at night with snaggle toothed love. He has taught me patience, and what it looks like to value ones pet as family. I wouldn't give him up if I tried. He is my tuna breathed best friend! Isn't it wonderful how cats can find the patch of light and just bathe in it, totally and completely relaxed!

14/365 Here it is, the nitty gritty, dirty details. I wasn't going to show this one to be honest. Can you guess why? My room is in chaos, there is a huge mess in the background, and that is not all of it. I wanted to display all good and paint myself a nice little picture with how you all SHOULD see me, hell, some of you looking may choose to one day hire me to document your life, shouldn't I present professional and clean?. The fact is, that life is messy, I am not always clean and organized. (organised never, ADHD fun fact) There is this belief out there, that if your a mom, stay at home or even work elsewhere that you have to keep up with the Jones'. Life is supposed to be clean and orderly as well as the kids. Bad behavior doesn't happen *cough cough* Jumping on the bed and doing flips. Constantly pitting woman against woman and mother against mother. I bought into this idea, trying to be perfect for the rest. Worried about who is going to judge me and why? To much mess, to much jumping on the bed, too much TV? Well guess what. My life is chaotic, hectic, loud, messy and fun. My children are free roaming, dirt loving explorers with very little in the way of boundaries and limits because after all they are kids, and they are exploring their world within the safe perimeters that we parents set up. So my room is a disaster, my kid is preforming flips on my unmade bed, and I am documenting this moment. You know what? Every day my children are loved even in the untidiness of it all.

5/365 Help me choose. I cant choose today. I have to pick one in the end for my blog, but I am so torn. Fall is the best time of the year. If you know me, you know I purposely play in leaves in the fall. The color, the smell, the sound, the sights, and the Pumpkin Soup easily makes fall my favorite time of year. I was out with my kids and I saw all the leaves. Giddy with excitement and inspiration, I pull over and force my kids to throw leaves, OK, well bribed with skittles. I captured these 2 and I don't know which to share. Its all my favorite things in one spot.

2/365 My youngest was born with mischief in his eyes. Even before he could physically smile, his eyes just shone when he found things amusing. He is curious and full of life and forever getting into stuff and trouble. I took this photo because he was playing Hello Neighbor with his friends, and I don't get the game, but dude I can totally see you.
